About Mosher Lumber Inc.

If you’re looking for 21st century building products coupled with 19th century service and values, then it’s time you discovered Mosher Lumber Inc. in Buffalo, NY. OUR HISTORY

Mosher Lumber Inc. has proudly served the Clarence Center community for generations, with roots that trace back to the late 1800s. Long before the company became the trusted lumberyard it is today, local craftsmen were building quality products for the farming families of Western New York.

The story began in 1875 when George Winborn, an early settler of the area, built wagons for the local farm community under the name Winborn Wagons. In 1898, Charlie “C.W.” Foote continued the tradition from his shop on Railroad Street in Clarence Center, crafting wood wagons and farm implements built to last. C.W. Foote believed in using the best materials possible while still providing real value to his customers — principles that continue to guide our business today. We still proudly display some of the original wagon parts, ladders, and tools he created, including a piece of an unused wagon wheel with its original shipping tag addressed to him.

In the 1920s, John A. Hartwig purchased the business from his father-in-law, C.W. Foote. A local contractor and skilled builder, Hartwig constructed the building we still operate from today and expanded the business by introducing retail lumber sales to the community. We even have a copy of one of his 1927 bills of materials showing that the total cost to build a home at the time was just $4,316.

After returning home from World War II in 1948, Bob Fogelsonger purchased the business from his uncle, John Hartwig. Under Bob’s leadership, the company grew into a full-service retail lumberyard, supplying lumber and building materials to homeowners and contractors throughout the region.

In 1982, David Mosher purchased the business after working for Bob during college and following graduation. His dedication and commitment carried the company into a new generation while preserving the small-town values and customer-first approach that have always defined the business.

Today, Mosher Lumber Inc. continues to honor its history by providing quality products, dependable service, and honest value — the same ideals the company was founded on more than a century ago.

BENEFITS OF WORKING WITH AN EXPERIENCED LUMBER YARD

You have choices when it comes to sourcing wood for a project. Big box stores tout their convenience, affordability, and inventory, but working with a local lumber yard is a better choice for a number of reasons.

  • High-Quality Wood: The reason that big box stores are able to offer attractive pricing to their customers is that they tend to take shortcuts in terms of quality. Our lumber yard stocks high-quality wood that we diligently care for, ensuring that you get the best return on your investment.
  • Extensive Selection: Because we are entirely devoted to selling wood, our lumber yard has a better selection than other sources. If you need a rarer type of wood, you’re more likely to find it here.
  • Affordable Prices: While big box stores broadcast their affordable prices, that doesn’t always apply when it comes to lumber. Lumber yards are able to keep their prices extremely competitive while offering wood at a higher quality.
  • Custom Cuts: While big box stores can cut wood to certain lengths, only a specialty lumber yard can custom mill wood to the specific length and width you need. If you have a project with specific dimensions, visit a lumber yard to get the exact cut you need.
  • Expert Advice: The employees at a big box store must retain general knowledge about an enormous number of products. At our lumber yard, we staff seasoned experts. We work solely with lumber, and we understand all the nuances of what you need.
